Workshops

Pattern –  Play

Date: January 18th 10:00 – 1:00pm

Location: Canberra Studio in O’Connor

This 3-hour workshop introduces participants to block printing using a playful, low-tech approach. You’ll create your own patterned cloth—perfect as a bandana or reusable gift wrap—using printing blocks made from industrial offcuts and recycled materials. Participants will experiment with water-based inks on reclaimed textiles, learning how to combine textures, colours, and layering techniques to develop striking patterns.

Designed for beginners and curious creatives alike, Pattern Play encourages intuitive exploration while offering a solid structure for skill development. Each participant will test and refine their ideas before completing a final artwork to take home.

With a focus on sustainable materials and creative reuse, this workshop offers a fun and creative take on textile print design—blending artistic expression, environmental awareness, and contemporary craft practice in a session that is as educational as it is enjoyable.

All printing inks and block-making materials are provided along with test fabric, a cotton bandana and a tote bag.

You are welcome to bring additional fabric pieces, totes or t-shirts.
