Still Life for a Still Life 2020

Paintings and prints on exhibition at The Boroughs Store 345 Lygon Street, Brunswick East, Victoria 3057 18 March 2021 – 14 April 2021

I was home, but away from my home, and unsure about how long I would be there. Before the first Australian lockdown descended, I took myself to the city I grew up in to spend time with my mother. At first, I felt like I was in a doctor’s waiting room without a pile of old magazines to flick through to bide the time. The prescription was to get a routine. It started with a daily walk, enjoying the autumnal weather, collecting feathers, fallen branches and flowers on nature strips. I set a goal to paint a still life every day for 100 days.  It was good medicine. On exhibition is a selection of the 100-day collection.

I would like to thank Alasdair MacKinnon and Eddy Carrol from The Boroughs Store for their support and encouragement and for providing me with an opportunity to exhibit these works.  I would also like to thank Ruby Mackinnon for graphic design and packaging,  Adrian Spurr for assisting me with the production of the woodblock prints, and for the use of his studio. Special thanks to Mark Madden for all sorts of other things and Monty for insisting on the daily walks.
